You’ve just found out you’re expecting — and the planning begins. From picking a pediatrician to decorating the nursery, your to-do list grows quickly. One of the most meaningful decisions you’ll make? Choosing a 30A newborn photographer who will capture those first fleeting days.
I know how much these images will mean to you. They become the portraits on your walls. They become the albums your children flip through someday. They become heirlooms. So let’s talk about exactly what to look for — and how to feel confident in your choice.

Choosing the right photographer takes more than a quick Google search. Furthermore, it’s not just about price or availability. It’s about finding someone whose work, style, and approach feel like the right fit for your family.
Here are the key factors to consider.
Start with the portfolio. Does the photographer’s work make your heart stop for a second?
Look for consistency. A photographer’s gallery should reflect their actual, everyday work — not just their very best day. When you browse through image after image and feel the same warmth, the same light, the same emotion — that’s the right photographer.
My style is light, soft, and timeless. I create portraits that feel calm and genuine, not overly posed or stiff. Meanwhile, I’m always guiding you gently so you feel relaxed throughout the entire session.
Key point: If you love a photographer’s work, trust their creative process. Allow them the freedom to do what they do best — for you.
Think beyond the digital files. What do you want to do with your portraits?
The right photographer offers heirloom artwork — wall art, albums, and fine-art prints — that stand the test of time. I carry a curated selection of products because I believe your portraits deserve to live somewhere beautiful, not buried in a hard drive.
Key point: Make sure your photographer offers products you genuinely love. Ask to see samples in person if you can.

Getting dressed for a newborn session can feel stressful. It doesn’t have to be.
A good photographer will guide you on what to wear — or better yet, provide beautiful wardrobe options for your family. I keep a well-stocked client wardrobe with soft, flowing gowns and coordinating pieces for the whole family. You’ll be guided every step of the way, from what to wear to how to pose, so you can simply enjoy the experience.

Location matters more than most parents realize. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Studio sessions offer a controlled, safe environment. The space is warm (babies need it cozy!), the lighting is consistent, and you never have to worry about weather. I photograph most studio newborns from my Niceville studio — and it’s an easy drive from anywhere along 30A.
In-home sessions are one of my favorites, and I do travel for them. The key is the right light. A home with large windows, light-colored walls, and neutral or light furniture creates the most beautiful, natural portraits. If your 30A home fits that description, I’d love to bring the session to you.
Outdoor sessions are less common for fresh newborns due to temperature and sun sensitivity. However, they can work beautifully for milestone sessions as your baby grows.
Not sure if your space qualifies for an in-home session? Reach out — I’m happy to chat through the details and help you decide what will work best for your family.

Beyond the portfolio, pay attention to how a photographer communicates with you.
Trust your instincts. When you feel completely confident in your photographer, that confidence translates directly into a relaxed, stress-free experience on session day.

Here’s something many first-time parents don’t realize: the newborn stage moves fast. The tiniest curls, the sleepy stretches, the perfect little fingers — they’re fleeting. The ideal window for a newborn session is within the first 5–14 days after birth.
That’s why I encourage families to book during pregnancy, ideally in the second trimester. This ensures your spot is reserved well before your due date arrives.
I’m available for studio sessions in Niceville and in-home sessions throughout the 30A area. I’d love to be your 30A newborn photographer. View my newborn portfolio →
