30A Maternity Photography: Why Grayton Beach State Park Is the Perfect Location for Belly Portraits

There’s a reason Grayton Beach State Park is my favorite location for 30A maternity photography. Out of all the beautiful locations along the Emerald Coast, this one consistently produces the most stunning, timeless portraits — and my clients always leave saying it was even more beautiful than they expected.

If you’re planning your 30A maternity session and wondering where to go, here’s why Grayton Beach State Park is my top recommendation — and everything you need to know before you arrive.

What Makes Grayton Beach So Special

Grayton Beach State Park sits along one of the most preserved and protected stretches of Florida’s Emerald Coast. Because it’s a state park, development stops at the entrance — which means no condos in the background, no crowded beach bars, no strangers walking through your portraits. Just pristine white sand, incredible dunes, and that signature emerald green water that makes this part of Florida so magical.

It’s why Grayton Beach is consistently my first recommendation when clients ask about 30A maternity photography locations.

The light here during golden hour — that last hour before sunset — is something I never get tired of. The warm tones reflect off the white quartz sand and wrap around your bump and your face in the most flattering, dreamy way. Soft, glowing, and never harsh — it makes every image feel timeless.

The park is also genuinely quiet. Even during busy times of year, Grayton Beach draws far fewer crowds than public beach access points nearby. That peace translates directly into your session — you’re not rushed, not distracted, not dodging strangers. You can simply breathe, be present, and let me capture this season beautifully.

The Locations Within the Park

One of the things I love most about Grayton Beach is the variety of backdrops within the park itself. In a single session we can move through several completely different settings without ever getting back in the car.

The shoreline gives you that classic Emerald Coast look — vivid turquoise water, white sand, open sky. Bright, airy, and timeless in any season.

The dunes are dramatic and stunning — towering white sand dunes with wild coastal vegetation that creates a completely different mood. Portraits here feel more intimate and editorial, with beautiful texture and depth in every frame.

The nature trails wind through the coastal scrub landscape and offer a softer, more lush backdrop — perfect if you want something that feels a little more unexpected for a beach maternity session.

Most of my sessions move through at least two of these settings, giving you a beautiful variety of images from a single location.

Practical Things to Know Before Your Session

Entry fee: Grayton Beach State Park charges a small entry fee per vehicle — a minor cost that’s absolutely worth it for the access and privacy it provides.

Parking: Parking sits right next to the beach with no long trek to get there. From the parking area it’s about a five minute walk to reach a beautiful spot by the water or the dunes.

Time of year: Grayton Beach is gorgeous year-round. Florida’s mild winters mean beautiful sessions even in the cooler months, and the off-season has the added bonus of even fewer people in the park. Summer sessions are stunning too — the water is at its most vivid and the sunsets are spectacular.

Session timing: I always schedule beach sessions during the hour before sunset for the most beautiful light. Golden hour at Grayton Beach is truly something special and makes a noticeable difference in your final portraits.

What to Expect from Your Session

My approach is warm, unhurried, and completely guided from start to finish. You don’t need to know how to pose — I’ll walk you through everything so you can simply show up, feel beautiful, and enjoy this season.

I also offer a full client closet of flowing maternity gowns, all pre-photographed so you can see exactly how they’ll look before session day. You’re welcome to bring your own outfits too and we can mix and match for variety.

After your session I guide you through designing heirloom artwork for your home — from framed wall portraits to fine art albums. These images deserve to be more than files on a hard drive.
