Event Overview

Every year, the City of Destin hosts a magical Christmas parade along Highway 98, transforming the route into a festive display of holiday joy. Local businesses, schools, community organizations, and families come together to decorate floats and wear festive costumes — and with a new theme each year, no two parades are exactly alike.

Date: Usually held on the first Saturday of December
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: The parade runs eastward along Highway 98, starting at the new Destin Publix at Main Street and ending at the Destin Community Center.

Highlights of the Destin Christmas Parade

Creative Floats and Decorations

Each float is lovingly decorated to reflect the spirit of the year’s theme. This theme may embrace the enchanting beauty of winter wonderlands, the warmth of classic Christmas tales, or even a heartfelt tribute to our local beach culture. From twinkling lights to the charm of Christmas trees, the creativity and effort on display create a magical atmosphere that truly warms the heart.

Marching Bands and Performers

The parade brings together marching bands from local schools alongside performances from dance troupes and theater groups. Their colorful costumes and choreographed routines add so much energy to the morning — it’s one of those things that gets the crowd going every single time.

Santa’s Grand Appearance

No Christmas parade is complete without Santa Claus, and Destin does not disappoint. He makes a grand entrance as the grand finale — and if you have little ones, watch their faces when they spot him coming down Highway 98. He typically rides alongside Mrs. Claus, waving to the crowd from a beautifully decorated float. It’s the moment kids talk about for weeks.

Tips for Enjoying the Destin Christmas Parade

  • Arrive Early: The parade starts at 10:00 AM. It’s a good idea to arrive at least an hour early to secure a good viewing spot along the route.
  • Bring Chairs and Blankets: December mornings can be chilly, so bring some cozy blankets and folding chairs for comfort.
  • Parking: Parking is available near the parade route, but it fills up fast. Plan to park a little farther away and enjoy a short walk to your spot.
  • Plan for Kids: If you’re attending with young children, bring snacks, water, and something to keep them entertained as you wait for the parade to start. Be sure to stay close, as the crowds can get thick.
  • Dress Festive: Many parade-goers add to the spirit by dressing in holiday attire. Ugly sweaters, Santa hats, and reindeer antlers are all welcome!

Community Spirit and Holiday Cheer

One of the best parts of the Destin Christmas Parade is the sense of community it brings. It’s a chance for locals and visitors to come together, celebrate the season, and share in the excitement. The parade fosters a heartwarming holiday spirit that’s hard to beat, creating lasting memories for everyone who attends.

Whether you’re a local or visiting Destin for the first time, the Christmas Parade is a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season. So grab your loved ones, bundle up, and come experience the magic of Destin’s holiday tradition!

The holidays are one of my favorite times to photograph families — everyone dressed up, the kids buzzing with excitement, the magic of the season written all over their faces. If you’d love holiday family portraits in Destin, I’d love to make that happen.
